Future Ghost

Lyrics

Of all the men I loved, you were never one.
All the roots that held, that never see the sun

Oh behold the future hands unrealized

The room behind the door with false skylines

You’ll never find.

Darkness sits below to start each day

The promise of the sun, the clouds betray

Of the chiming of the bells that never rung

The breaking of the tide that never comes

But we become  one

Can’t you hear voices, begging old choices

Calling down the lines not drawn

But we belong

To the shadows of loves unknown and the

Life you chose is not the one

That you’ve become

Tie yourself, to the breaking of the tide

Twice below, behold the man whose future’s false skylines

Can’t you feel future ghosts of who you were

Reaching back to beg for time

Left behind

To the shadows of loves unknown and the

Life you chose is not the one

That you’ve become

Tie yourself, to the breaking of the tide

Twice below, behold the man whose future’s false skylines

Oh all the men I’ve loved, you were never one

All the roots that held that never see the sun

Oh the chiming of the bells that never rung

The breaking of the tide that never comes

But we become…. One.

Many Worlds Theory:

I spent many afternoons with Rob Hite in his studio talking about the imagined histories of the people that may have lived in these worlds that he created and those characters began to take shape in my mind. Real people who he had once known turning down different paths and finding themselves in these imagined worlds. At the same time I was reading about the Multiple Worlds Interpretation of the Universe. Whenever there is a consequence to an action the world splits into a copy of itself and every action is taken, every consequence seen. I thought about all the choices I had made, and all the versions of myself that lived in a parallel universe that had made those choices. That all possibility and time exists at once. What if our future selves could come back and beg us to choose them, to force our hand to become them? Click here for more of Rob's work.
